I absolutely love photography, I am not exactly sure why but all types of pictures get my attention. I am a very visual person I guess, I love the stories behind each picture.
I will admit I do take a ton of photos, many of them being extremely random and bad because I would do it in a rush to use them on snapchat.
Though, I do also take a lot of nature pictures because mother earth is just so beautiful. I love to capture moments in which you think gosh how lucky are we to live in such a beautiful place.
In my room I have a mural of pictures of friends and family, I like to keep adding photos because when I get bored I can just look up and there is my friends, family, and other reminders of my life. I will say, I am probably not a very good photographer but I take picture mainly for myself since I will be the one looking back through them to remember the old days.
After reviewing the sources posted for photography, I have realized I probably should attempt to put some effort into taking pictures, or at the very least give the picture some meaning.
We were asked to reflect on photography, and how it is incorporated in our lives. I take a lot of photos as you will learn making this section really exciting for me. Hope we do more of this later in the semester.
As usual I love doing the daily create for the week (The Creative Days), I was able to do all of them Monday-Sunday and had a blast! I will probably continue to try to do every one for each week. My favorite on this week would definitely be Monday- Droodle at Meeting (or Elsewhere).
I also greatly enjoyed the photo safari, Abigail and I went out a few times to strictly go photograph the beauty that is of Mary Washington and Fredericksburg. We mainly went out at night to fit the noir theme as well that was our only free time.
Lastly I watched 2 noir movies this week Killer’s Kiss and Chinatown. After watching these movies we then had to discuss how they demonstrate noir throughout the movies. Read my blog post “Movie Night!” if you want to learn more about it.
Challenge: Take 10 steps and a picture at each step, use different angles and directions. Create a collage out of the pictures.
This photos were taken around Arrington, while my roommate and I went out for a walk. I thought it would be the perfect time to get this assignment done. I tried to get as many different angles as I could think of that would be interesting. Here is the result of the photo-shoot.
Killer’s Kiss is about a man (Davey) who is a boxer and is in love with his neighbor (Gloria) who is a hall dancer, they planned to run away together. Gloria has an abusive relationship with a gangster (Vincent) she doesn’t like. (Vincent is shown below.)
Davey ends up protecting her one night from Vincent, Vincent is then angry at Davey and attempts to kill him but accidentally murders Davey’s boss.
This movie is so noir in that it is in black and white and the multiple scenes that are very dark.
Noir is also seen in the plot in that the plot is about a couple and a jealous man trying to break them up. The bad guy (Vincent) is killed in the end by Gloria’s lover Davey (the good guy). The cigarettes and outfits worn throughout the movie also help build on the noir theme.
Chinatown is about a private investigator called Jake Gittes who was hired to watch Mr. Mulwray. Mrs. Mulwray was suspicious of an affair. Later in a plot twist it is revealed that Mulwray girlfriend is Evelyn’s daughter and sister.
This movie has plenty of noir elements such as a femme fatale character (Evelyn), the clothing worn throughout the movie (the hats and suit), and smoking.
The story has many parts to it that can only truly be understood when watching the movie, the story is part mystery and part drama making this the perfect representation of noir.
I had this picture of the water fountain by the Bell tower and with all the birds that like to fly around there, I just thought why not enlarge one to accomplish the a whole new world visual assignment.
